Vitaliy Svichinsky: "Domestic violence is one of the most widespread forms of human rights violations"

Today, with the participation of Deputy Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine Natalia Fedorovich and deputy chairman of the regional state administration Vitaliy Svichynsky, a regional coordinating council on issues of family, gender equality, demographic development, prevention and counteraction to domestic violence and gender-based violence, trafficking in human beings.

"All family members can suffer from domestic violence, but most often it affects the weak, unable to protect themselves and dependent family members: children, the elderly, people with limited physical and mental capabilities, and women. Violence, in turn, raises a number of social problems. Therefore, we must work to prevent violence and to protect the rights and interests of those who have suffered from unlawful actions ", - said Vitaliy Svichinsky.

During the meeting, representatives of local self-government and executive authorities were heard about their activities in the field of countering violence and supporting people who were victims of domestic violence.

It was reported that in 2018-2019, in Odessa region, 30 mobile brigades of social and psychological assistance were formed, including 21 brigades in the first quarter of 2019. According to the mobile brigade of the region, since its inception by present time, 848 trips have been carried out and 5142 consultations have been provided to residents of the districts.

"The key to us with you is to not forget that we are not only civil servants who fulfill their civic duty. It is necessary to start from the family, pay close attention to the psychological state of our children and relatives ", - noted Natalia Fedorovich.

At present, the Department of Social and Family Policy of the Regional State Administration has established cooperation with the Odessa Academy of Continuing Education of the Odessa Regional Council on the prevention and counteraction of domestic violence. On the basis of the Academy, more than 7,000 pedagogical staff per year receive advanced training and develop methodological materials, after which it will be approved.

Deputy Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine Natalia Fyodorovich thanked the regional authorities for their effective and cooperative work with profile departments, relevant structural units and the public.

Note that Inter-sectoral working groups of the Oblast Coordination Council are called upon to strengthen the council's activities, bringing together specialists from different structures and organizations. The staff includes representatives of the RSA, justice, social and medical services, law enforcement, psychologists and representatives of civil society organizations. Accordingly, the regional state administration constantly holds seminars, round tables, conferences on this issue with the participation of representatives of higher educational institutions.

Recall that on May 14, 2019, a roundtable on prevention and counteraction to domestic violence was held in Odesa Oblast State Administration.
