In Odessa region will develop its own program to increase the level of road safety by 2020. This was stated by the head of the Regional State Administration Maksym Stepanov during a round table with the participation of representatives of the European Union Consultative Mission, law enforcement agencies and public activists.

"The problem is acute and, unfortunately, there is a disappointing tendency. We need to urgently improve the situation in this segment. At present, the development of a comprehensive regional program for improving road safety is underway. We formulate solutions that, without exaggeration, have a positive impact on people's lives and safety. I expect that, thanks to these measures and with the support of partners from the European Union Consultative Mission, we will correct the situation ", - said the chairman of the Odessa regional state administration Maxim Stepanov.

In the opinion of the region's leader, it is necessary to apply the best international practices that have already proved effective and to adapt them to Ukraine. In particular, he recalled the adoption of the Law "On National Security of Ukraine" of June 21, 2018, which brought Ukraine closer to the security principles and standards of the EU and NATO. "This is the result of democratic transformations in the country," Maxim Stepanov added.

Udo Moller, Head of the CMES Operations Department in Ukraine, thanked for the cooperation and said that this is the sixth meeting in this format.

"Similar forums are a successful example for other regions. Thank you, Mr. Governor, for your activity. As a Mission, we are grateful for what you are doing now and are ready to provide support for future action in this direction, "Udo Moller said.

Recall that security is one of the key priorities of Maxim Stepanov's Strategic Action Plan "Intelligent Region" for 2017-2019. Thus, in 2017, the region's leader initiated the launch of the Safe Odesskaya program. Also on his behalf, trainings on the elimination of the consequences of traffic accidents were conducted in all regions.
