The Odessa Regional Children's Hospital has completed the renovation of an intensive care unit, which rescues the lives of newborns and premature infants. It lasted for five months. Already today there are seven newborns in the department.

"This is a unique department. Specialists are working here, saving lives for the smallest Ukrainians who need it. They are capable of reaching children weighing 500 grams with different pathologies ", - said the chairman of the Odessa regional state administration Maxim Stepanov.

He noted that the branch has been functioning for 30 years, and has not been repaired for a long time. Thus, in 2018, UAH 885,000 were allocated from the oblast budget, which resulted in the replacement of the system of medical gases, electrical grids and necessary construction work.

Currently, according to Maxim Stepanov, intensive care has created comfortable conditions for the stay of children and the work of doctors. In total it is designed for 12 beds. For the year there are about 340 children.

"The department is provided with all the necessary equipment. Therefore, in plans, we must talk about a completely new children's hospital. A modern new Odessa regional children's hospital, but this is a little bit later, "said Maxim Stepanov, head of the region.

Recall the regional program "Affordable Medicine" has a separate direction for the treatment of children. For example, for the provision of urgent surgical care in 2019, 8.5 million hryvnias were allocated. Therefore, at the expense of the budget, three days of stay in the regional children's hospital are completely free of charge. Since the beginning of 2019, 460 small patients have already received such assistance.

The development of medical services is one of the priorities of the Strategic Action Plan of the chairman of the Odessa Regional State Administration Maxim Stepanov "Intelligent Region".
