Odesa region has one of the lowest inflation rates in the country

The consumer price index in Odesa region for April of this year to the prices of December 2019 amounted to 100.5%. This means that currently the inflation rate in the region is 0.5% and is one of the lowest in the country (after Vinnytsia region). The overall inflation rate in Ukraine is 1.5%.

This indicator was primarily influenced by the general reduction in the price of food products, the share of which in the total indicator is 42.2%. Eggs (-21.2%), cheese and soft cheese (-2.2%), soft drinks (-1.8%), meat and meat products (-1.1%) fell the most. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (-4.9%) and transport (-3.2%) also fell significantly.

At the same time, the price of vegetables (+ 15.8%), fruits (+ 14.8%), and sugar (+ 9.8%) increased significantly.

It should be noted that on May 18, 2020, the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers №341 "On measures to stabilize prices for goods of significant social significance, anti-epidemic goods" came into force, which establishes state regulation of prices for certain types of goods. The purpose of the document is to prevent speculation during quarantine.

The following products are subject to state regulation:

  • buckwheat;
  • granulated sugar;
  • premium flour;
  • pasta from premium wheat;
  • milk (2.5% fat);
  • rye-wheat bread;
  • eggs of category C1;
  • chicken meat (carcass);
  • non-carbonated water;
  • butter (72.5% fat).
  • In addition to products, some medicines, disinfectants and antiseptics and personal protective equipment are subject to regulation, namely masks, gloves, protective shields, FFP2 or FFP3 respirators, protective suits and dressing gowns.

    Business entities are obliged to declare in advance their intention to increase the prices of these goods.
