Day of the defender of Ukraine is celebrated in the Odessa region. The ceremony on the occasion of the holiday took place near the memorial sign to the deceased ATO soldiers. It was attended by the head of the Odessa regional state administration Maxim Stepanov, the servicemen of the Odessa garrison, heads of local self-government bodies, representatives of law enforcement agencies, clergy and lyceum of the Naval Lyceum.

"During the years of the war in the East Ukrainians, without exaggeration, became the nation's advocates. We all are different. You have different titles. Someone has a military experience. Someone just chooses this path as our lyceum students. But at this moment everyone is present here - defenders of our country. And most importantly, no one has any doubt - we have, who to defend. And we have something to protect. And we believe in victory! ", - emphasized Maxim Stepanov.

All the attendees heard an address by the President of Ukraine, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Petra Poroshenko on the occasion of the holiday.

"The Day of the Defender of Ukraine is a holiday, which is already directly connected with modern heroes, with the participants of the fighting for the independence of our state. With volunteers, volunteers, doctors, workers of defense enterprises, priest-chaplains. This is not a gender holiday. Already will not be more welcome just because he is a boy. We must be a defender. And 55,000 women who serve and fight in the ranks of the Armed Forces are a vivid confirmation of that, "said President Poroshenko.

The participants of the ceremony laid flowers to a memorial to the fallen Ukrainian warriors in the east of the country.

A minute of silence was attended by honoring the memory of the fallen ATO soldiers.

Lyceum of the Naval Lyceum made a solemn oath of allegiance to the country. According to exemplary study, initiative and military discipline, 16 lyceum students were awarded the title of "vice-chief of the second article". Also, these future defenders were appointed as junior commanders. Having completed the ceremony, the common denominational representatives of religious denominations defended Ukraine.
