The head of the Odessa regional state administration Maxim Stepanov proposes to reduce the fees in the ports of the Danube. This will give a new impetus to their development, in particular, in Izmail, Reni and Ust-Dunajsk. This was stated by the head of the Regional State Administration during an expanded meeting on development of the Ukrainian seafarer's complex, which took place in Izmail with the participation of the President of Ukraine.

"The status of Ukraine as a navy state will be preserved. And the status of Izmail, as the sea gate of Ukraine, we must preserve, restore, develop carefully ... Our presence at sea is vital, it is a national interest of our state ", - emphasized Petro Poroshenko.

The regional shareholder Maxim Stepanov reminded that in 2017, the Ministry of Infrastructure, by its order, reduced the port fees by 20%. However, this decision did not touch on the Danube ports. Therefore, the OSA chairman urged to remedy the situation.

"Moreover, it seems to me that port charges should be reduced by at least 50%. And we will see an intensification of the economy, an increase in exports, a better competitiveness of Ukrainian goods ", - said Maxim Stepanov.

He also drew attention to another problem - cruise ships are forced to pay a fee at the level of freight. "For the development of tourism, it is necessary to reconsider the fees for tourist vessels that come to our ports. After all, they are now accounted for in the same way with the goods ", - said the chairman of the Odessa regional state administration. In addition, he proposed at the state level to introduce mechanisms of economic preferences and stimulate investment for the development of ports.

As a result, the region's head turned to President Petro Poroshenko asking him to issue an order to consider these proposals at the level of central executive authorities.

"We must use all possibilities of cooperation with the European Union, take an active part in the development of the transport corridor by connecting Europe-Asia. The indicated network includes 8 seaports of Ukraine, and 2 of them are located on the Danube. This is Reni and Izmail, where now it is planned to implement a number of infrastructure projects for modernization and development of the port complex ", - said the President of Ukraine.
