Maxim Stepanov: coverage of measles vaccine among the population of the oblast should reach more than 95%

The level of coverage of measles vaccination among the population of the Odessa region for 11 months should reach more than 80%, and by the end of the year 95% -98%. This was announced by the head of the Regional State Administration Maksym Stepanov during a conference call with heads of the RSA, city leaders and OTG.

"Our children should be protected as much as possible. At present, the Odessa region is fully equipped with the necessary amount of measles vaccine. No flash waiting! Simply give appropriate instructions to healthcare providers about vaccination and monitor this issue in a permanent manner. In two weeks, the population gravity coverage rates should reach 80% in each district, and by the end of the year - more than 95%. Vaccination is an immune shield of the region's population, and not only health workers, but also authorities should join it, "said Maxim Stepanov, the chairman of the Odessa regional state administration.

Olena Teryaeva, director of the Odessa Health Department's Department of Health, said that, on average, the rate of vaccination coverage in Odessa oblast is 67%. "To create collective immunity is not enough, it is necessary to intensify the informing of people", - she marked.

The best work on vaccination of the population was conducted in Shiryaevsky district - 95%, Podolsky - 92% and Tarutinsky - 91%. The lowest rates are Kilia, Renaissance and Izmail areas, where the coverage of vaccines does not exceed 60%.

It should be noted that in Ukraine, during the year 2018, 38 108 people suffered measles, of which 2 567 (7%) were residents of the Odessa region. For effective protection against measles, it is enough for a person to have 2 vaccines. As of November 1, in the Odessa region, the remainder of the measles vaccine amounted to over 28,220 doses. Each primary care institution has a three-month supply.
